The Joy of Giving Back and finding your Social Purpose

Gone are the days when employees are just after a steady pay check.

To attract the best talent, companies need to be offering a lot more. It’s not just about creating a great culture and offering great benefits, these days people want to work for a company that has purpose and gives back. So, how do you go about finding your social purpose and bringing this to life?

Find your passion

Find something that is meaningful for your company. That may be about community, sustainability or supporting a particular cause.

Whatever it is, make sure it aligns with your values and resonates with your people. And if you’re unsure – ask them!

Focus

Once you’ve found your social purpose, make sure you focus on that. It’s much easier to get behind one or two causes than support every charity there is. Make sure you’re keeping it front of mind and clear that’s who you support and why.

Take Action

Look at different events/ activities you can do throughout the year that supports your chosen social purpose.

Partner Up

Talk to your suppliers/ customers and see if they will support your chosen cause too or get behind you for certain events. After all, there’s power in numbers!

Give Back – or allow your people to

Offer a paid volunteer day for your people. Or better yet, organise it as a team! It’s a great way for you to collectively give back and a great way for people to connect together while doing something good.

This year, ColourHR have organised their own volunteer day – with a few helpers 😊

We spent the morning working with Eat my Lunch and helping to deliver lunches to Kiwi Kids who would otherwise go without. A great cause and a great way to spend time with our children doing good in our community.
