Setting intentions: Top 5 tips to starting off the year in the right direction for you and your employees.

Well, we have blinked and we are already one month into 2023! For many of our clients they have hit the ground running with strong intentions for the year. If you are still trying to catch your tail, then read our top tips to set those intentions that will enable you to meet your desired outcomes for 2023.

1.      Take the time to reflect.

The first step is to take some time out to reflect on what you value and what is important to you and your organisation. For example, valuing your customers. Think about four intentions for the year that are purposeful and aligned with what matters to you and your organisation.

2.      Draft the plan for these intentions.

Once you have defined your intentions, set some clear actions underneath. In the example above, if valuing your customers is an intention for the year, how will you go about doing that? Set a plan that is time specific and attainable.

3.      Formalise these intentions with your team.

To achieve your intentions as a business you need everyone to be on board. Take time out as a team to introduce the intentions and the actions. Do it over a shared lunch or team building activity. Get your team involved to take responsibility of some actions that enables them purpose for the year ahead. Remember if everyone is paddling in the waka in the same direction you are more likely to meet your destination faster!

4.      Revisit them each month or each quarter.

It’s important that you don’t hide these intentions in a desk draw. Review them as a team every month or each quarter to ensure you are on track. Introduce them to new employees who join you and set their actions for the year. Displaying these around the office and talking about them regularly in meetings keeps them front of mind and also helps fight off distractions that aren’t aligned with those intentions!

5.      Celebrate!

We often get so busy moving onto the next thing we forget to stop and acknowledge when we have achieved a milestone. Celebrate as a team when you achieve an intention. It motivates you and your team and gives a great sense of job satisfaction to see the hard work come together.
